Robert “Bob” York Robert “Bob” York,67, of West Frankfort, passed away Thursday, August 8, 2013 in St. Louis University Hospital with his family by his side. He was born October 21, 1945 in West Frankfort to Robert T. York and Dorothy (Merriman) York. He married Mary Jane (Pugh) York on February 19, 1965 in the Methodist Church in Shawneetown, Il. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane York, the beloved father of daughter, Julie Ann (Tom) Broy, grandsons, T.J. and Tyson Broy; son, Richard Brent (Jennifer) York granddaughters, Jessica and Whitney and by a brother, Greg (Debbie) York and family a sister Debby York all of West Frankfort a special aunt Joanie Pugh of West Frankfort and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Frankfort. He was a member of the UMWA Local 1487 the VFW Post # 5764 in West Frankfort where he served many years on the military funeral honor guard. He was also a member of the Moose Club and Elks Lodge all in West Frankfort. He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1963 to 1969. He worked for Freeman Coal Company # 5 and Old Ben Coal Company # 26 as an electrician on the mine surface. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 12, 2013 in the Parker-Reedy Funeral Home in West Frankfort with Rev. Mike Cash officiating. Burial will be in the Tower Heights Cemetery in West Frankfort with military rites by the Orient and Zeigler American Legions, VFW in West Frankfort and the Military Funeral Honors Team in Marion. Visitation will be Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Melanoma Research Foundation, Dr. Lynn Cornelius at Washington University in St. Louis, Mo. and will be accepted at the funeral home.
