Robert F Kennedy on behalf of his older brother John Fitzgerald - TopicsExpress

Robert F Kennedy on behalf of his older brother John Fitzgerald Kennedy when speaking to a Russian politician in the two days preceding the end to the Cuban Missile Crisis (paraphrase): My brother fears he is loosing control of his military. RFK was sent on a secret meeting to speak with a delegate from Russia. Most White House officials were unaware of this decision, and it has been said that JFK told RFK he is the only one he can trust to such a task. The military had been discussing not battle contingencies to the possible threat, but war plans for the inevitable. The few people JFK trusted to tell of HIS plan, had shot him down like a U2 Spy-Plane deep in Russia. In the middle if the night, President J sent a secret telegram to Sweden and Russia, telling both there would be a secret meeting taking place between the USA (RFK) and Russia. This is when RFK told the Russian politician that JFK was fearful of loosing control of the military. This midnight meeting that was against every Americans advice ended the Cuban Missile crisis. Within a few hours, all Russians were leaving the newly founded Communist island of Cuba and were thanking the Americans in fluent English for helping to resolve the crisis. This is why I love the USA ... It took one man (JFK) to stand up against an entire army ... In the White House there was speculation that the President of Russia had become a puppet of the USSR military. One way of looking at it is JFK stood up against 2 militaries. American resolve, not necessarily at its finest, but still moving from DefCon 2 (Defense Condition) back to DefCon 4. May the flame atop his grave live forever, Long Live JFK
