Robert Huggins holding Angela Jackson at Aunt Odessas house. 1970 In October 1967 I was home from school and Robert came over and he wanted to go to Stephenville to check out the College so off we went. Robert had a black 1958 Chevrolet and he liked to play the radio as loud as it would go. He would tap out a rhythm along with the song on the dashboard as he was driving and when we got to Lampasas he was pulled over for speeding. Robert had a gift about gab and he talked the Officer out of a ticket. Robert liked to drink Whisky and he would often take the cap off the bottle and throw it away making it necessary to drink the whole bottle. We met Ralph Allen Ebeling in his dorm room at Stephenville and Robert got the lowdown on the University. Robert was not ready to turn around and go home and it being Texas, O.U. weekend we decided to go to Dallas. Now I had been to the Texas, O.U. weekend the year before with Roy Myers and a bunch of football players from Navarro. I was scared the whole time even though I was in a group of tough guys so it being just Robert and me I was a little concerned. When we got to Dallas and found a place to park , Robert decided we needed to go see a Concert. As we walked to the Concert Hall groups off football fans would pass us and we became supporters of the Sooners or the Longhorns depending on the colors they were wearing. We made it to the Concert without incident. I dont remember buying tickets but somehow we made it into the Concert. Sam The Sham and the Pharos were the headliner to the event. The Pharos were a group of scantily dressed young women who sang back up for Sam the Sham. The Hall was crowded and Robert being Robert decided that we needed to work our way to the front to get a better view. Robert and I wanted to meet The Pharos and we started to maneuver to the side of the hall. We found a door and ended up back stage in a long hallway. The Pharos came walking down the hall toward us with Sam the Sham and his crew behind them. Robert struck up a conversation with some of the girls and Sam was drinking wine which he offered us. Here I was a little hick from Marble Falls drinking wine with Sam the Sham and all these scantily clad girls. Robert being bolder than I asked the girls if they would go out drinking with us and to my surprise they said yes. They asked us to stay there while they went and changed into their street clothes. Well about 15 min. later we figured out we had been jilted. Robert was one of my best friends and I miss him.
