Robert is close to retirement. Hes worked forever at CHKD in Environmental Services making our floors shine to the point of being able to dine off of them. Yesterday he brought me a bag with a pair of Pierre Cardin leather boots he bought in 1979 at Hoffheimers for $5. They have been his prized possession and he has taken super special care of them until he recently discussed with his wife the fact that he never has an opportunity to wear these snazzy boots anymore. Because I am blessed to work with such a thoughtful and lovely man, he decided that I should be the new owner of his boots He said he often sees me in funky outfits and lots of fancy footwear, so he thought I would get most use out of them. I was of course very honored and humbled to accept his very large boots. So as life would have it, The end of my shift was zany with post ops returning from surgery, chemo due, and infants projectile vomiting as I was desperately trying to get out on time to attend a professional society dinner at a nice restaurant sponsored by a drug company, one of the very few perks of being a nurse. As I was rushing to change from scrubs to my cute maxi dress in the staff restroom, I realized that I had forgotten to bring any shoes! Black, heinous and germy nursing clogs were just not going to cut it. And then I saw the bag. So I put my new men size 10,1976 snazzy boots to use and when the hostess at the restaurant complemented me in spite of my loud clomping, I said Thanks, theyre Vintage.
