Roberto Martinez is staunchly against selling experienced left-back Leighton Baines to Manchester United although former Everton boss David Moyes is keen on a reunion with the England international at Old Trafford. Everton have already knocked back a £12 million bid and Moyes could return with an improved offer but expects Baines to submit a written transfer request to force through a move to United. United have flirted with the prospect of signing Baines for quite some time, with Sir Alex Ferguson also an admirer of the full-back. The arrival of Alexander Buttner last summer was expected to cool interest in Baines, but the Dutchman has not proven himself to be an able deputy to Patrice Evra, reigniting the chase of the 28 year-old Toffees man. Martinez nevertheless remains confident that United’s unsuccessful bid was their last and Baines would stay on at Everton next season. However, the Daily Mail revealed that the Red Devils would certainly improve their offer for the player if he is prepared to hand in a transfer request this month. Moyes is yet to make a big-name signing this summer, failing with his efforts to land Cesc Fabregas and Thiago Alcantara. The Scot is now turning towards his former club with plans to raid Goodison Park for Baines as well as midfield powerhouse Marouane Fellaini. - Admin FF12
