Robin Bates writes: Driving across America on my disability scooter to raise awareness for MS Here is an article published in my local newspaper about my cross-country journey. There is so much good stuff happening right now I’m battling to keep on top of it all. I think with me working so hard to get fit and healthy for the trip I am going to have to get a few volunteers to help me with the business end of things. One of the cool things I just did is submit my official Guinness Book of World Records application, which means I will get loads more support and publicity all over the world if approved so lets hold thumbs. So, I’m looking for help, it could be in the form of volunteering, sponsoring, supporting my facebook page (Robin’s MS Journey), or if you are able to spare a few buck’s donating to my gofundme account (Scootering-across-America). I am looking at getting everyone I can involved, you see this journey is about disabilities and how we can do something incredible. Not everyone can take 6 months out of their lives to do a cross country journey, but because of me they don’t have to, this journey is as much theirs as it is mine, all I ask is that you embrace it and enjoy the ride. People ask me why? Why am I doing something so - crazy/dangerous/hard/long, my answer is simple because I can. You see being disabled is hard, I worked in a very competitive work environment for 12 years until I had to go on permanent disability 2 years ago. Even though my health has gotten worse, I knew I had to do this, I have to show people with MS that there is HOPE. And it’s not just MS but disabilities in general, if you can get your mind right and make some lifestyle changes you can improve where you are regardless of what’s wrong. It’s not about a particular drug, diet or procedure, it’s knowing that somewhere someone is doing all they can for you. I came to this country almost 20 years ago and I decided on America when most of my friends where going elsewhere. The reason I chose America was because if you are prepared to work hard this is where you can make your dreams come true. Even though my dreams and my physical ability have changed, for those who want to succeed we still live in the greatest country in the world. You see what make a country great are it’s people and by driving my disability scooter across the country I am going to get to meet thousands of Americans along the way. I sure hope you land up following me and cheering me on, that way you might be one of them. Sometimes living somewhere else truly makes us appreciate what we have here in America. cdapress/…/article_c211e402-749f-519d-93b7-5…
