Robin Williams. First celebrity death that has ever made me cry :( This country has serious issues with attaching stigmas to mental illness/disorders, depression, & addiction. People are ashamed to get help. We should all be ashamed of ourselves for judging people battling ANY of these. Many lead to suicide. ALL are DISEASES. True diseases. Not a lack of willpower. I also hate hearing addicts referred to as dirtbags who deserve being thrown into jail!!! These diseases KILL. Just as cancer can. I dont know what caused Robins depression. All I know is as a suicide survivor to my father, grandmother & more before my birth...great grandfather, cousins, & others stemming generations, suicide prevention is deeply important to me. Even aside from Robin who could have received help (but certainly not without the stigma!) the average American usually views receiving help for mental health as a luxury thats simply not affordable, not to mention theyre ashamed. We need to TALK openly & loudly about these issues. There shouldnt be shame nor stigmas associated. Ive seen psychiatrists etc & it helped me greatly in hard times. Why is that a dirty thing to say?Ugh. Sry for the rant. But, this made me sad. Exactly 20 days from today will be the 11th anniversary of my dads suicide. Know the hints! Know when someone you love is begging for help. It can be VERY subtle. Lastly, take it serious. Too late, is too late. Who cares if theyre just wanting attention? Much better safe than sorry. Ok. Ill step down from the pool pit now!! Lol
