Robin Williams brought me and those I love a tremendous amount of joy over the years. He was the kind of person who just consistently brought humor touched by wisdom and compassion. He has been a light in my life. The Robin Williams story I want to share has nothing to do with any role he played though. It was about a year before I got sober and I was in the emotional wringer that is the end stage addiction. I was at a friends house who was having the same troubles I was having and we were both in a lot of suffering. We were watching a Robin Williams stand up routine and he talked about having just gotten sober. His ability to be honest, and humble about his own addiction, and to laugh about the pain of it has stayed with me. I think of it as one of the moments that made a difference for me. One of those moments that helps save a life. Rest In Peace Robin Williams you were a light and you will be missed.
