Robin Williams was my idea of an SF icon. I used to run into him - TopicsExpress

Robin Williams was my idea of an SF icon. I used to run into him many times in the 80s and 90s around my neighborhood in SFs Richmond Dist. A funny story to share was on one day in the early 90s, I was filling up my motorcycle he was pumping gas in his car at the Chevron on Geary and 24th. About an hour later, I was getting a bahn mi sandwich (before it was hip) at a place on Clement called Little Paris (no longer there). Who was in line behind me, but Robin! We gave each other a little nod and I walked out. From there, I was at Macys on Union Square - dont ask, I have no idea why I was there. Who should I bump into again, but Robin. Finally, much later that day, I was renting a video at Le Video on 9th Ave and Lincoln - Ahhh, remember video tapes and renting them? I walked down one of the isles and low and behold, there was Robin! He gave me a smile, and said...yes sir, I am stalking you! We had a little laugh and I said, see you tomorrow neighbor! And we shook hands. We ran into each other a few times after that and acknowledge each other, and being that I was a HUGE fan, I didnt act like one. Just acted normal. But one time during one of our run ins I got the courage to talk with him and told him that Good Morning Vietnam and The Fisher King were an inspirations for me to get into radio. He said he enjoyed working on those movies and wished me luck on my career pursuit - of course I never followed that career for (bitter) personal reasons. We shook hands again and he said, see you soon neighbor.
