Robin is Dead...and I Dont Feel So Well Myself* Its like the guy on the suicide hotline said, Life isnt for everyone. - Robin Williams, in a 2006 NPR interview, when asked if his manic style of comedy indicated anything about his own mental health. In comedy, timing and context are everything. When Williams made that joke in 2006, it was (in context) a typical Robin WIlliams stream of consciousness one-liner - part of his larger answer about whether hed ever been in therapy or had any issues with depression. His reply (and Im paraphrasing) was I get the blues, like everyone, but nothing more than that - Im fine, really. Nothing to worry about there. At the time, it was a funny little Robinism. When NPR rebroadcast the interview today, it was a chilling prophecy, whispered from the past. Much like a molecule of water is composed of an hydrogen atom and two atoms of oxygen, a molecule of comedy is an atom of truth joined with atoms of pain and honesty. (*With apologies to Lewis Grizzard...who is also dead.)
