Robocop (2014) Review by Darth Freud I saw the new Robocop movie - TopicsExpress

Robocop (2014) Review by Darth Freud I saw the new Robocop movie this weekend and was pleasantly suprised. I went prepared to trash this PG-13 offering as another watered down Big Hollywood re-imaging. I was wrong. They put some thought and effort into this one. The writing was really good. The plot has some unexpected twists (especillay for a shoot-em-up action movie.) They also took the time to address a lot of different very hot-button social issues. The dialog was even thoughtful. One of the things that really wowd me was the acting. I had no idea that I was getting Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, and Samuel L. Jackson in big parts...but thats not all...they all actually crafted these parts in somewhat transformative roles. For me, Gary Oldman stole the whole show. He was so good it was almost moving (agian - weird for a gun movie.) The CGI put the old Robocop to shame without taking over the movie. The Robocop character even gets fleshed out a little bit better in this one. Probably my only complaint was that this version, while violent, was not as explicitly gory and shocking as the original was in its day. I will make every forgiveness for this fact because of how respectfully they treated this hero story from my youth.
