Rocket launch take #2. The Orion spacecraft will be launched tonight Australian time (11:05pm AEDT) and the live coverage on NASA TV (steamed online) starts from 10pm AEDT. Orion will splashdown off the coast of California a few hours later after re-entering the atmosphere at 32,000 km/h). Heres hoping for a successful launch. The Delta IV Heavy rocket has about 2 million lb (30 MN) of thrust* and will ultimately lift Orion to an altitude of 5800 km. *by way of comparison, a Boeing 747-400 has 240,000 lb of thrust, the Space Shuttle had 4 million lb and the Saturn V Moon rockets First Stage had 7.7 million lb (!) of thrust.
