Rockingham The Winners & The Losers Colin Turkington bagged - TopicsExpress

Rockingham The Winners & The Losers Colin Turkington bagged himself the biggest points haul of all the runners last weekend at Rockingham after scoring a total of 57 points from the days three races, with a maximum of 67 available over the course of the weekend. The Northern Irishman won the opening two races, and then backed that up with a fourth place finish in his eBay Motors backed BMW at the Northamptonshire venue, and has extended his lead at the top of the Championship standings with a 55 point lead over nearest rival Jason Plato. Its worth noting this is the fourth weekend in 2014 that Turkington has scored more points than anyone else on the grid. Plato has now moved ahead of Gordon Shedden into 2nd place in the overall standings, and was the joint second highest points scorer with his own team mate Sam Tordoff, after the MG duo racked up 41 points each. Next up was Team BMRs Alain Menu who was the 4th highest scorer after he had his best weekend of 2014 in the Volkswagen CC, scoring himself a massive 40 points that equates to more than 25% of all his points scored so far in 2014. Even though it was Menus best weekend of 2014, it wasnt quite good enough to boost him up the overall standings from his 12th place, but he is now only 3 points away from 9th place man Rob Austin who amassed 36 points following his race 3 victory ahead of Menu, that moved him up from 11th place. The reigning champion Andrew Jordan was the 5th highest point scorer of the weekend after clocking up 38 points in his Pirtek Racing Honda Civic and has subsequently moved back into 4th place, dropping Turkingtons team mate Rob Collard back down to 5th. The biggest losers of the weekend were the Honda Yuasa Racing duo of Gordon Shedden & Matt Neal who only scored 25 points between them. Shedden could only manage 16 points following a retirement from race 3, whilst Neal only managed a lowly 9 points, and with only 134 points available for the remainder of the season, its now mathematically impossible for the Brummie to win the championship for a fourth time. Elsewhere BMRs Aron Smith and WiX Racings Adam Morgan both dropped a place in the overall standings to Austin and now sit 10th and 11th respectively with just four points separating Austin, Smith, Morgan & Menu, so the battle for 9th is certainly going to be one to watch over the next couple of race weekends. United Autosports Glynn Geddie dropped one place in the standings to 20th place after failing to score all weekend, as Austins team Mate Hunter Abbott moved up to 19th after scoring a total of 8 points.
