Rocksteady 200 46. Rough Rider – Prince Buster & The All Stars - TopicsExpress

Rocksteady 200 46. Rough Rider – Prince Buster & The All Stars (Fab) 1968 “I feel so broke up today” - And so – on to the highest placed Prince Buster track in my chart. Born Cecil Bustamente Campbell on Orange Street in Kingston, Jamaica, his middle name was given to him by his family in honour of the Labour activist and first post-Independence Prime Minister William Alexander Clarke Bustamante. Buster was at the forefront of the musical change from ska to rocksteady, even though he had been incredibly successful during those ska years. The Beat went on to cover this, and while that version was okay, I always say the best thing about it was that it prompted kids to search out and play the far superior original. An absolute classic. I’m not sure about its Jamaican release history – but it was issued in the UK on Fab, on Prince Buster and on Stateside, where it had a picture sleeve – a rocksteady first??
