Rod Petrie was an accountant who became chairman of the club - TopicsExpress

Rod Petrie was an accountant who became chairman of the club because of his financial prowess. It has stood the club in good financial stead. That good stead has clearly been at the expense of good football. I dont think anyone will disagree with that. But in the circumstances, as the owners man in the club, and with no active interest from the owner, what could anybody else have done differently? The Hibs fans would have appointed Collins, Mixu, Hughes and Butcher given the choice. Im sure Mr Reilly and Mr Kane were vociferously in support of the club/Petries choices. Petrie has spent every penny available on the team in recent years. The owner sets the financial rules (dont overspend), the manager signs and pick the teams, Petrie counts the beans. Now if someone says we miscounted the beans and we have £10m in the bank, Id say sack Petrie immediately. But he is the financial custodian of the club and doing an excellent job at that. Weve cleared the manager out six times, weve cleared the players out (at last), Petrie is handing over his Chief Executive role to a marketing whiz kid in Leann Dempster, hopefully to kick of some more money making schemes for the club. I just dont see what needs to change apart from the team. And I dont see how Paul Kane or Mike Reilly - or anybody - for that matter (given the constraints) can make the club any better, and I dont believe those kicking off can answer that either.
