Roger Lee Holman I checked on this.. Herbalife shakes contain 20 g protein, vitamins, minerals, calcium, and antioxidants. It compares with other protein/vitamin shakes. Its fine as a supplement, but shouldnt be used in a very low calorie dietary program (800 cal/day) unless supervised by a physician. Thermo-bond is a fiber supplement. It claims to reduce fat absorption. The product is classified as a supplement and has not been evaluated for its therapeutic benefit by the FDA. Why not compare cost of other products such as Citracil. Cell Activator is alpha lipoic acid. ALA is manufactured by the body and works as a cofactor in mitochondreal energy production. It acts as an antioxidant. Lots has been written about ALA, and it is touted as treatment for many problems. But there are few randomized trials that substantiate long term benefits of the product. There have been no studies of ALA in GBP patients published that Im aware of. I have attached a summary article describing use of ALA for the treatment of diabetic neuropathy. There was some apparent short term benefit to intravenous infusions, but it wasnt clear that oral supplementation had long term benefits. As youll see on this Web MD summary, the real benefits of ALA are pretty sketchy. Since there are some potential drug interactions, it would be good to discuss use of ALA with your PCP.
