Role Model Zambia honours Dr. Kaunda and Mama Betty Kaunda By Derrick Sinjela derricksinjela.blogspot Youth-led Role Model Zambia, a grouping involved in advocacy for human rights, good governance and youth will on 2nd November 2013 honour First Republican President Dir. Kenneth David Kaunda and late Mama Betty Kaunda during the Humanitarian Awards ceremony in Lusaka. Role Model Zambia President Manfred Musanshi named the seven categories as the The Kenneth Kaunda Award, The Mama Betty Kaunda Award, The Mama Chibesa Kankasa Award, Traditional Leaders Award, Unsung Heroes Award, The Diplomatic Award and Authentic Music award. The Nakatindi grounds marquee and close to 1000 guests will witness with the first Humanitarian Awards Kenneth Kaunda going to KK, for encouraging global society to emulate his selfless leadership, and Mama Betty Kaunda will be conferred with an award posthumously for her immense support to the father of the nation throughout the liberation struggle and during her time as first lady of Zambia. Others to receive awards will be Mama Chibesa Kankasa for her role in the frontline of the liberation struggle for independence , Chieftainess Nkomeshya for the Traditional leaders award and Former US Ambassador to Zambia Mark Storrela, together with Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao for the Diplomatic Award for their country’s and individual involvement in promoting Zambia’s friendship with their respective countries. Other awards will be the Unsung Heroes Award, which will recognise individuals that have made great impact on our nation but are always behind the scenes. And the Authentic Music Ward will go to the artist who has kept the original sounds from the past to keep preserving our culture through music, and the recipients will be announced on the Awards night. Every year Zambians will be voting for these awards to nominate the people they feel deserved to be awarded for their contribution. The Dr. Kaunda Award will forever be a prestigious award given to the most outstanding leader at every year end. “ Every peace loving Zambian who loves Kaunda and share our ideology of honouring people while they live should come out that night and join us in celebrating our heroes. Tickets will be on sale next week at K300, which is inclusive of a Zambian night dinner.
