Romans 10: Justification, and how you get it. (21 verses, 3:05 to read) READ | LISTEN What I am about to READ Paul describes the righteousness that comes by faith in Christ, apart from the works of the law. He also tell us how we get this faith, namely from preachers who proclaim God’s word. MARK & LEARN 10:9: You are saved by your confession and trust in the truth of Jesus life, death and resurrection. 10:14- “That we may obtain this faith, the Ministry of Teaching the Gospel and administering the Sacraments was instituted. For through the Word and Sacraments, as through instruments, the Holy Ghost is given, who works faith; where and when it pleases God, in them that hear the Gospel, to wit, that God, not for our own merits, but for Christs sake, justifies those who believe that they are received into grace for Christs sake.” Augsburg Confession, Art. IV. 10:17- Faith comes not by speculation or inquiry but by hearing the word of God. Faith is given as gift and does not have its origin in man at all. MEDITATE Luther says in his Small Catechism of the Third Commandment’s command to worship that we should “not despise preaching and His [God’s] word, but hold it sacred, and gladly hear and learn it.” It seems strange to us to revere our pastor’s sometimes boring sermons, but if they preach the truth of the scriptures those sermons are life and salvation to those who hear them. Lord, open my ears to hear your word of forgiveness from your word and from my pastor who has been sent to preach to me. Amen. Questions? Comments? Post below. Peace, Pr. Ross
