Romanticism about the Romanovs (who admittedly kept a very flashy court). Communism oppressed the Russians in its own way, but it taught the lesson (though not the practice) of democracy, a concept utterly foreign to Tzarist Russia. Obviously many Russians now close their eyes and memory to the abject misery most of their ancestors (only four generations ago!) suffered under the Tzar. Illusions about the Romanovs, like the return to the Orthodox church, is a symptom of disenchantment with the corruption in government, but neither one will help them in the least.
