Ronald McDonald House: Dinner tonight was meatball sandwiches, - TopicsExpress

Ronald McDonald House: Dinner tonight was meatball sandwiches, and they were GOOD. I ate alone this evening in their dining room but there were also two women in there as well who had just met. The two ladies were mothers of premature babies and they were sharing their stories. I of course listened...lol. Kids with different illnesses have parents who can speak a different language. Their world is all about feeding tubes and waiting for their tiny babies to learn how to breathe, suckle and swallow. As I listened it became apparent that these Moms are very proud of the progress the babies are making. Both were born in late May with due dates in August. Their conversation turned to the inhabitants there at RMH. One of the ladies then says, there are even kids here with cancer! This launched a whole other conversation about how difficult it must be to have a child with cancer. They were NOT being negative....just perspective. Now, as a parent of a child with cancer my outlook is quite different. Im in a different class of parenthood. My world is difficult and chaotic. Cancer is a MONSTER and not for the faint of heart. The parents that I know are tough, determined and resilient. I have always been surrounded by the Warrior class of folks. Early in life I chose the Marines, today my job as a calltaker at a 911 dispatch center and this cancer business. Each has some very tough people who fight everday with unforseen circumstances and use their personal skills to overcome the adversity before them. I will now include the Moms of premature babies because they spend months at RMH waiting for their kids to grow to a point where they can fend for themselves and do the simple things a that full term baby can do on its own. They spend hours in isolation rooms, never able to hold the baby and they cannot sleep with them at night. Oh hell NO!! would be my reaction....my kids stay in my ring of protection at ALL TIMES. Im certain Jen feels the same... Enough of my bantering...yall have a good evening and hug your kids!
