Rumors have run rampant all summer about a transfer away from Old Trafford for Rooney, but up to this point newmanager David Moyes has stood firm in his stance over the player’s future. Now, the report fromESPNsuggests that the player feels optimistic about making the switch. Rooney has been training with the Premier League champions’ reserve squad since missing out on the club’s preseason tour of Asia due to injury and their recent friendly in Sweden due to a different injury (ashoulder injury), and is a large doubt for tomorrow’s Community Shield match against FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic. Rooney’s expected absence tomorrow is hard to blame on injury, with the striker set to appear in Roy Hodgson’s England squad inmidweek for the Three Lions’ friendly againstScotland. The match comes just days before the new Premier League season kicks off.
