Root Canal Dangers The Link between Root Canals & Breast Cancer Root Canal procedures involves extracting the root of an already dead tooth. The tooth will often harbor infection that can go unnoticed for years. It is this dead tooth and bacteria that often causes disease because the bacteria spreads through the bloodstream. This bacteria can cause diseases of the brain, bones, heart and other organs. Dr. Robert Jones; a researcher studying the connection between root canals and breast cancer, discovered that 93% of women who developed breast cancer had a root canal. The other 7% of women who had breast cancer without a root canal, had other dental issues. The root canals/dental problems always seemed to occur on the same side that the breast cancer first appeared. Now many of you who have had breast cancer are probably thinking of your own dental surgeries. I know for myself, I had major dental surgery back in 2007 and two years later developed breast cancer on the same side of the major dental disease. I have periodontal disease and major bone loss in the upper quadrants of my mouth, with the bone loss being more pronounced on the left side of my mouth. The dentist at the time suggested a possible root canal, tooth extraction, or gum flap surgery to remove the bacteria. I opted for the gum flap surgery, but it most likely just moved around a lot of the bacteria from the tooth. A substitute for a root canal is to have the tooth extracted, have an implant or a bridge. It is a good idea to consult with a holistic dentist and express your concerns regarding a root canal to find a viable option.
