Rory Gallagher - The One Show My interview with Slash, about our shared enthusiasm for Rory Gallagher, should be on The One Show tonight at 7pm on BBC1. I went to Dublin in early December to talk to the former Guns & Roses guitarist, just before he played an arena gig there. Rory was a significant influence on Slash, one of those who first inspired him to pick up the guitar. Rory was hugely important to me too - his was the first live band I ever saw, and then, later, Rory was a regular performer at Leeds University when I was booking the bands and running the concerts there in the early 1980s. And then there was the small matter of the check shirts... Rory was a lovely bloke - the most modest and least pretentious rock star with whom Ive had dealings. I was very fond of him. He died in 1995. Slash and I were joined in Dublin by Donal Gallagher, Rorys brother and former tour manager. To our surprise and delight, Donal brought along 64351 - the battered sunburst Fender Stratocaster which young Rory bought in 1962, and which remained his favoured guitar for the rest of his career.
