Rosberg retains F1 points lead after BIC battle Nico Rosberg remains at the head of the 2014 F1 world championship, despite having to give best to Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton for the second time in as many races. Despite starting on pole position, and finishing the race on the preferential softer compound, Rosberg could not quite get on terms with Hamilton in a ten-lap sprint to the flag after a late safety car, dropping another seven points to the Briton. However, his win in Australia, where Hamilton failed to finish, ensures that the German keeps control of the standings, with an eleven-point advantage heading to China in two weeks time. Back-to-back 25-point hauls ensure that Hamilton is now well clear in second spot overall, with Force Indias Nico Hulkenberg claiming third spot on 28. Behind the German, Fernando Alonso holds onto fourth despite a lowly finish in Bahrain, with Jenson Button now in a share of fifth with Sebastian Vettel after retiring for the first time in over a year. The teams championship is clearly the domain of Mercedes, which now has 111 points compared to second-placed Force Indias 44. Yes, you read that right… Force India holds down second spot after three rounds of the 2014 season, with Sergio Perezs Bahrain podium lifting the Silverstone squad ahead of McLaren – which didnt score this weekend. Red Bull is now fourth overall, on 35 points, with Ferrari (33), Williams (30) and Toro Rosso (7) the others teams on the board.
