Roses are red Violets are blue Relay saves lives For that we thank you! Thank you for choosing the American Cancer Society Relay For Life. Thank you for your precious time. Thank you for helping us help cancer patients and their families. Thank you for helping us save lives. We had a wonderful Relay For Life season in New England this year - despite many weather challenges. You helped create and support meaningful opportunities for people to celebrate their survivorship and remember loved ones lost to cancer. And, our New England Relay participants raised more than $20 million to continue the fight. Congratulations! We leave you with the account of someone who attended his first Relay this year, in Derry, NH: “I walked in my first Relay For Life event tonight as a survivor, though I’m now three years into remission . . . There were probably over a hundred survivors walking that first lap. People lined the track and applauded as our names were read and we walked by . . . On the second lap, the caregivers joined in, walking alongside the survivors just as they had during the fight. I walked holding my wife’s hand in one of mine and sharing my kids’ hands in the other. I think it was the first time we all collectively thought of the not-too-distant past when our lives were turned upside down. I’m glad we don’t dwell on it daily, but I’m just as glad we shared that moment of reflection tonight. We’ll participate in Relay For Life in the future, but not just in the Survivors Lap. I got my t-shirt tonight, a bright purple shirt emblazoned with the battle cry to “Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back.” So, that’s exactly what we’ll do going forward. We’ll form a team and it will be big and full of life. We’ll walk in pride of our victories and in honor of those lost. We’ll raise money to find a cure and we’ll celebrate life with each step we take. I hope you’ll join us. The road is long, but always made easier with someone at your side.” Relay changes lives.
