Rosol Wins Close Contest: Eighth seed Lukas Rosol survived a close first-round contest on Tuesday, edging Lukasz Kubot 6-3, 3-6, 7-6(2) at the Thailand Open in Bangkok. The Czech fired 16 aces in response to 14 from Kubot and won 71 per cent of his service points. Rosol is making his debut in Bangkok, bidding to win his second ATP World Tour title. The 28 year old won his maiden trophy earlier this year at the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy in Bucharest (d. Garcia-Lopez). Top seed Tomas Berdych will open his campaign against Roberto Bautista Agut after the Spaniard defeated qualifier Marco Chiudinelli 7-5, 7-6(2) in one hour and 50 minutes. Bautista Agut goes into the second-round match with the confidence of having beaten Berdych earlier this year at the Aircel Chennai Open quarter-finals. Japanese qualifier Go Soeda earned a second-round clash with sixth seed Feliciano Lopez after coming from a set down to beat Santiago Giraldo 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in 86 minutes.
