Rough night. Our youngest adopted Greyhound, Gimme, woke us around - TopicsExpress

Rough night. Our youngest adopted Greyhound, Gimme, woke us around 2-2:30 having seizures. Luckily he had been laying down with his feet up against a TV. We woke to a very loud racket not knowing what was going on. When we got to that room, he was on his side with his feet banging into the TV. Getting over to him he was foaming at the mouth & he had wet himself. For who knows how long we sat petting & talking to him & finally the leg movements calmed down. A bit after that he got up but was very unstable. He still was likely out as he didnt respond to us at all. We got him in the car & went to the emergency vet clinic. They said his one eye was still not reacting as it should but his heart, etc seemed fine. As we were there we could see him coming out of it a bit more. They ran blood tests which didnt indicate anything that caused the seizure & gave us meds to give him as needed. I slept (sort of) on the couch to try & keep an eye on him, but he seemed to hardly sleep at all - laying down but head up. Talking to the vet, she indicated that seizures are really not an uncommon thing & advised us on what to do & watch for - indications that a seizure may be on the way. But Ill tell you this - after having dogs & other animals all my life, this is the 1st time either me or Bev witnessed one. Scary as hell.
