Roughly 50 fisherman showed up at the Toms River NJ Striped Bass - TopicsExpress

Roughly 50 fisherman showed up at the Toms River NJ Striped Bass hearing. Only about 15 or so spoke on the record. Hopefully guys will send emails before the 30th. There was a strong voice in the room overall for conservation, but this is a heated topic. 1 @ 32 was supported by those of us that felt that the bass needed to spawn a few years before harvest. Important to note that all of the Bogan fleet large party boat Captains in addition to Ray Bogan and others were present and making a case to keep things as they are at 2 bass. Comments from them made it crystal clear that the pay for hire sector would suffer if conservation measures were implemented. They implied that theres plenty of bass, that we were clueless and there was certainly no reason to do anything drastic now. If you are a striper angler and wondering if you should show up at your local hearing, last night was a great example of why you should get off your ass and not only show up, but speak up loud and clear before we loose these fish AGAIN.
