Round 124 in which Shell attempts to replicate grandmas apple pie. - TopicsExpress

Round 124 in which Shell attempts to replicate grandmas apple pie. As some of you know, I make this attempt about once a year and have yet to succeed. Let me describe her pie; It was cinnamony, not too sweet, dense and on the thin side (about 1 1/2 thick). One could pick up a wedge with their hands and eat it that way. The pie filling did not run out of the pie shell, the apple slices were thin and there was no juice. I helped her to make this pie a dozen times. The ingredients and the recipe are simple. In grandmas words; After crust has been made and put in the pan- Slice your apples pretty thin and pile up about so high (this is roughly 3 above the pie pan). Slice a stick of butter and scatter the pats around the top. Take a cup of sugar with a good amount of cinnamon (this is about 3/4c sugar and 1/4c cinnamon) and sprinkle it over the top. Scatter a tablespoon of flour around the top of the apple. Add the top pie crust, cut 4 small steam vents. Back. Cool. Eat. Sounds simple, right? Ugh. This years adjustment- less butter. Wish me luck.
