Round 3 Match Report: BENAUD’s IIX vs MOISTIES Venue: Yandina Oval Time: 8:00am Result: BENAUDs IIX (129/3 off 18) defeated MOISTIES (124/8 off 18.1) by 5 wickets with 10 balls to spare. **Benaud’s Div 1 Campaign Starts Well with Important Win** The first game would commence at an earlier than usual time this week. When 8am struck, only a few players from each side were present, resulting in the game starting fractionally late. Moisties would bat first, with Adam Hoyle and Leon Howe opening up. The partnership would not last long, with Hoyle removed early for 2 off 2 after running himself out. Clayton Taylor and Leon Howe combined well, the pair stabilising the middle overs before Clayton departed for 20 off 15, and Leon Howe fell for 26 off 17. James Soanes showed his explosive talents before falling for 19 off 6. Anthony Murray came to the crease at the fall of the 3rd wicket, a slightly less preferred position for Murray. He would play some fantastic shots before departing for 21 off 13. With wickets falling rapidly, and Benaud’s executing their bowling plans excellently, Moisties were restricted heavily. Nathan Taylor was the victim of some superb outswing bowling from Geroge Mills, falling for 6 off 13 in the process. The dangerous Newbold brothers offered some hope for Moisties, but when Kev fell for 19 off 11, Chris was left as last man standing. With 20 balls still remaining in the innings, Chris had the opportunity to scrape Moisties to a defendable target. Unfortunately Chris couldn’t perform his usual magic, as he fell for 11 off 11, as Moisties were bowled out for 124 off 18.1 overs. Brendan Cowie was again, the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2/13 off 3. George Mills claimed 1/5 off 2, while Scott Larson claimed 2/31 off 3, with Tom Hayes (1/30 off 4) and Steven Kime (1/21 off 2.1) claiming the other poles. With 125 needed for victory, Benaud’s were in with a huge chance to claim a victory in their first div 1 encounter. Steven Kime and George Mills would be in charge of beginning the chase, with Leo Copelin still absent due to a fuel mishap. George Mills would explode early, launching pull shots with ease. His rapid 20 (10) began the chase perfectly, before his departure. Steven Kime continued to show why he is regarded as one of the most consistent players in the comp, easing his way to 30 off 23 before falling. James Deacon played very efficiently, capitalising on every run possible, before departing for 29 off 20. Tom Hayes showed great courage, after choosing to bat on after a nasty blow to the head. His courage was rewarded, as he batted the innings out, guiding Benaud’s to victory. Tom Hayes finishing with 27* off 24, while Scott Larson finished with 23* off 12, with 2 monster 6s, despite using a 5 year old’s bat. Benaud’s managing 129/3 off 18 overs, gifting them a clinical win so early in to their div 1 career. The 3 wicket takers for Moisties were Anthony Murray (1/16 off 3), James Soanes (1/16 off 3) and Clayton Taylor (1/27 off 3).
