Round 7 Result: Montrose 3 Bayswater 0 Scorers: T. Beech 2 R. Burton 1 Another win, another 3 points, and another clean sheet. A packed marquee in wet conditions on the freshly unveiled bottom pitch saw us scrounge out a comfortable, but ugly, result. Ben Brazzers Beech had JBs HD camera going in the change rooms before the game, hoping for a sighting of Pinky and the Brain. Shortened/no warm up after setting up the pitch, we started slowly but never looked in danger of conceding. Bayswaters revolutionary tactic of kicking it long never really threatened, and the majority of the game was contested in midfield, with little clear cut chances between both sides. In the absence of Ben Bleach, Davriel Amblistuta stepped up and dominated the game, contributing offensively and defensively and never giving possession away. Asian Tim was a hardworking partner for Dav after a sixth consecutive fashionably late arrival, with the rotating midfield of Scott, Maff, JT and Ando all doing their part. Any time the Baysie long ball looked dangerous, it was quickly snuffed out by our hardworking defensive unit. We were terrible defensively over the last 2 seasons, but this year its been a huge strength. In part to the addition of Ross Koutafides, but also the continued efforts to improve and be comfortable on the ball from Uhe, Grug, Dooshka, Zorba and Matty Mermann. While Beechy did his best Japanese tourist impersonation with the camera on the sidelines, this was a pretty drab affair where we never really got out of first gear. We can and will beat sides playing at that level, but to really dominate sides and put them away, we all need to lift another 5% in the coming weeks. RnB show strikes again, with Rhyso grabbing a ripper goal and an all important assist. Our performances have undoubtedly been down on last years up front, but were still chipping away and creating chances, combining for 23 goals and 1 marquee in 7 games, and only a few hundred misses. Good to see so many of the lads and ladies down to support us in tough conditions. Stay tuned for Maffs match report on Thursday. We now head into a two-week bye, still undefeated after 7 games.
