Round 9 of the ISAC Solent League was held at Eastney Beach, Portsmouth from 7pm until midnight on Saturday 18th October 2013 in good conditions for the 63 entrants. High tide at 0.22am was set at 4.8 metres, good for the venue. Pegs were placed in 3 zones from the old pipe at Fraser back to St George’s Road, peg 69. 49 entrants (77%) registered a total of 9 different species of fish at the scales for a total match weight of 68lb, 30.849kg. The 52 sizeable fish were represented by 3 Bass, 1 Codling, 37 Dogfish, 4 Pouting, 6 Smoothhound and 1 Sole. The 44 Top-Ups (undersized fish granted 1 ounce, 28g and returned to the water alive) were represented by 5 Bass, 1 Flounder, 2 Plaice, 2 Pouting, 30 Smoothhound and 4 Whiting. The competition produced a total cash payout of £825 in 13 cash awards. INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION Winner of the match was DANNY WOODCOCK from Portland who from peg 42 in Zone B placed opposite the entrance to Esplanade Gardens, landed 5 Dogfish, his best at 2lb 2ozs; 0.963g was the HFOTM, with a single 55cms Smoothhound to record the top weight in the competition at 8lb 13¼ozs, 4.004kg. This was Danny’s 1st ISAC match victory and won him the top cash prize of £130 with the r9 ISAC Match Winners trophy and certificate. Runner-up in the match was DANNY MOGRIDGE from Fareham who from peg 55 in zone C landed 4 Dogfish and a very tasty Codling of 1lb 11¼ozs, 0.779g to record a zone winning weight of 7lb 1¾ozs, 3.224kg earning him a consecutive £100 cash prize. The final podium place went to the rod of Zone A winner PETER FARRELL of Portsmouth, who from peg 19, placed opposite the Toilet Block, landed 2 Dogfish for a total weight of 2lb 5¾ozs, 1.070kg winning him his first £100 cash prize of the season. All the zone winners won bonus prizes donated by league sponsor TRONIXPRO. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP The first change at the top of the Individual Championship table since April happened after r9 with MIKE BROWN from Southampton taking over the lead on 44 points and 13lb 7¼ozs, 6.102kg in total weight. Mike finished 4th in zone B landing 2 Dogfish from peg 45 for a match weight of 2lb 12¼ozs, 1.254kg. RUSSELL PRESTON from Bristol moved into 2nd place overall on 48 points with 13lb 13½ozs, 6.279kg in total weight after recording his worst result of the year. Russell landed a Bass of 1lb 2¾ozs, 0.531g from peg 26 in zone B for 14 points, which he can drop at the end of the season, in this best 10 results from 12 round Championship. NICK MAY from Hastings retained his 3rd place position on 56 points and 11lb 9ozs, 5.244kg in total weight after gaining 2 points from peg 11 in the difficult zone A, with a dogfish and pout combo for 1lb 6¾ozs, 0.644g. SEA ANGLER MAGAZINE – PENN SEA LEAGUE The top PENN points on weight will be awarded to DANNY WOODCOCK, DANNY MOGRIDGE and JEFF FISK. Zone winner PETER FARRELL will pick up bonus points as should DANNY WOODCOCK for landing the HFOTM.
