Round Table Discussion= After watching this documentary, I am glad that I sort of missed out on a lot of that drama. I pretty much disappeared from the black community, after I went away to college. While there, I still maintained some connections through friends, but afterwards I bolted- no more church attendance, dating exclusively outside of my race, living in predominately white suburbs and being in a profession in which I am usually the only person of color. Some of my actions were rooted in just allowing life to carry me, whereever it did. While other elements of my decision were rooted in my own pain of rejection. I was biracial but not the ideal type who had white features, in between hair and a black body. I was very slender, tall and my features were a little foreign. So rather than deal with the constant jabs at my identity, I went where I could just be myself, with no other comparisons. After I got older and tried to reacquaint myself with the black community, I found that I was too far removed and made the decision to just remain isolated. Yet, seeing this documentary makes me feel as if I made the right choice because theres so much hurt in the voices of these women and so much rejection in the words of the men.
