Round Three Wrap Up, Match Reports, and Photos Round three was a home round for the Warriors with all teams playing the Altona Roosters at Casey Fields on Saturday 17th May. Conditions were perfect with blue skies first thing in the morning and any raining holding off until late in the afternoon. The fine weather combined with the fact that all teams had a game meant we had a bumper crowd throughout the day. Thank you to all those who game down to Casey to show their support. And a big thank you to the Altona Roosters for making the trip across town. Photos from Round 3 games have been posted to the team galleries on both Facebook and the Website. Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to look through the pics and ‘liked’, ‘shared’, and tagged their friends and families. If you havent already done so, dont forget to take a peek. Just a quick note on photos: We try to take photos at as many games during a home round as we can. However, due to more than one game being played at a time it is not always possible to get to every game. This is particularly difficult in the morning when there are usually three games underway at any given time. Unfortunately in round 3 we didnt get to either of the Under 7 games. We will make sure we get to the under 7s next home game to ensure we get photos of as many kids across all age groups as we can. MATCH REPORTS:* UNDER 8 RED This week saw us take on the visiting Altona Roosters. With six players worded up to play as dummy half and first receiver for 10 minutes each the team was rearing to go and play their roles. This format worked well as they played like a well oiled machine, running the ball up with gusto. We tackled well with everyone pitching in, even managing to tackle the opposition first receiver a number of times for the cheap turnover!!! Altona kept the ball alive a fair bit with plenty of second phase play but as they tried to take on our outer edges we had them soon into touch. Nathan carved up the opposition defence a number of times on his runs, the changes of direction having them at sixes and sevens tackling air as he made his way across the line a number of times. Duke took his opportunity on a tap restart with Altona’s defence not up to scratch weaving his way through to score as well. Haze notched up his first try after making a bustling run along the side line in the last third to get over the try line. The highlight of the game was the willingness for each player to help each other out and the way they performed their jobs in attack and defence. To see the smiles on everyone’s face when we left the ground reinforces why coaching juniors is so rewarding. UNDER 9 Played two games this week. All played great. Getting bigger and better day by day. Players of the day were Xavier & Cassidy. Awesome work boys! UNDER 10 RED & UNDER 10 BLACK This week both RED and BLACK teams took on Altona Roosters. The first game saw Casey Red go down in a high scoring match 26-34. As always, our two teams worked together to get the win, because Red softened ‘em up, and Black finished ‘em off in the second game 32-10. Hats off to the Roosters for playing 2 games with only a 40 min break. UNDER 11 It wasn’t the start we wanted, Altona scored two converted tries in the first 10 minutes of the start, full credit to the boys they pulled together and managed to put some pressure on Altona to force a mistake, which was much needed if we are to stay in this game. Jarred started the surge with a 15 m run from our try line, which lead to a massive 70 meter run by PJ to score our first try. Well done PJ. This try definitely got the boys pumped and focus on the task ahead. Our forwards decided it was time to take the game to Altona, strong tackling, running and carry by Sheldon, supported by Lorenzo, Jarred, Devante , which laid the platform for our backs (JJ, Jayden, Apai, Tamiti, Neo & Kevin to do their job. Jayden with he’s speed and step managed to slice through the Altona defence to score two tries in the first half. Great effort by the team captain, well done Jayden. Half time score: Casey Warriors 16 – Altona 12. Half time saw the introduction of our reserves in the forwards, Kyrone, Liam, Bailey in the backs, Kaiya & Joe. Second half started with Kyrone, Bailey, Liam & Sheldon taking the ball up with some strong runs which laid a nice platform for Juliian, Jayden & JJ to launch our attack, which Kaiya scored 10 minutes in the second half. Jayden had a massive run only to be cut down half a meter from the try line, which JJ scored a nice cheeky try in the corner untouched. Well done JJ. Another great play by the forwards , saw Jayden score he’s third try of the game. This kid is a scoring machine and is a huge asset to this team. Overall, a massive improvement from the whole team, our focus at training this week were on our defence, it really paid off on Saturday, even though we let Altona score two tries in the first 10 minutes, and to come back and win this game comfortably in the end, is a testament to the boys character and what to come. GIRLS TAG First game for the day at 9am and on main ground! Great team effort against Altona with a solid win 22 / 4. Excellent tagging from Emani and an awesome game from Celine, both chosen as players of the match. Well done girls, let’s focus on what worked and work harder on what didn’t!! *Thank you to all the coaches and managers who sent a match report in for their team.
