Route 21 northbound ramp to Route 3 closed overnight Detour to be in place as work continues on Passaic River Crossing bridge replacement project (Trenton) – New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the ramp from Route 21 northbound to Route 3 is scheduled to be closed overnight beginning tonight, October 2, and continuing for the next several days. On both Wednesday and Thursday nights, NJDOT’s contractor, Creamer-Sanzari JV, is scheduled to close the ramp around 11:30 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. the next morning. On Friday, October 4, the ramp will be closed at 11:30 p.m. until 7:00 a.m. Saturday. Northbound traffic on Route 21 will be detoured using exit 10 to River Road to Route 3. The work is part of the ongoing $156 million, federally-funded Route 3 Passaic River bridge replacement project in which NJDOT is replacing the structurally deficient moveable bridge with a new fixed span over the Passaic River, connecting Clifton City in Passaic County with Rutherford and Lyndhurst in Bergen County. NJDOT has staged the project in a manner that will enable motorists to cross the Passaic River throughout construction. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website 511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
