Route 66 used to enter the northern edge of Oklahoma City on - TopicsExpress

Route 66 used to enter the northern edge of Oklahoma City on Broadway through this intersection of Kelly Avenue and the Blue Star Memorial Highway (Memorial Road). A little right of center there is a signpost with both Route 66 and 77 shields. Route 66 curved off to the left, passing by the Memorial Park Cemetery while Route 77 continued straight on Broadway. This card seems to date from the mid 1950s. As you can expect, this intersection has changed a bit over the years as seen in this Street View show from this past July - goo.gl/maps/rMSXM. The other card shows the Oklahoma State Capitol building as it appeared in the early 1950s. Route 66, on its way south on Lincoln Boulevard, passed just to the west of the capitol before heading west on 23rd Street - goo.gl/maps/Z3dxY. When this building was completed in 1917 there was no money to put a dome on top. It wasnt until 2002 that the dome was finally added. Tomorrow, back out on the road heading west.
