#Rowing #WORDSOFWISDOM from @erincafaro | #FixYourSetup | Rowing Lesson #1 from the Clean: Get religious about your setup. In lifting, a good clean (or any pull) doesn’t start when the weights leave the ground. It doesn’t even start at the bottom. It starts at the top. In order to arrive at the bottom ready for the pull the athlete creates tension and stability in their body by top down load ordering. The idea of top down load ordering is very similar to the ideal recovery in rowing: set shoulders externally, arms straight, set forward body angle by hinging from hips, then measure down to the bottom by bending the knees. Lifters are meticulous when it comes to the set up- like a basketball player in the free throw line. Most notably they prioritize a strong neutral spine before they get to the bottom. Some of the most powerful and successful rowers Ive seen do the same and I dont think its a coincidence. If you get lazy on the recovery of the stroke and don’t take the time to top down load prioritizing that straight spine you might have saved a couple nuggets of energy by just doing what felt “natural”. But you will actually lose even more potential energy and power on the drive. One of the hardest things in rowing is getting comfortable in that seated position for minutes sometimes hours on end. It’s hard enough to get comfortable and support a straight spine even seated on a desk chair for 30’. But there is no better time than the present to change bad habits and movement patterns to help help you expose more speed on the drive. So get religious about your set up now and your drive will be touched by angels™. @unscaredinc @concept2 @athletecell @3fu3l @dianefu @mobilitywod #rowbettersuckless #rowxproject #UNSCARED
