Roy Melton Big O Orbison had a voice with a 3 or 4 octive range - TopicsExpress

Roy Melton Big O Orbison had a voice with a 3 or 4 octive range that went from baritone to tenor. His dark glasses and dark suits reflected his often dark, emotional ballads. Rolling Stone put this song #65 on the 500 greatest songs of all time. He wrote it with Joe Melson and released it in 1961. Music critic Dave Marsh called it rock-bolero: blaring strings, hammered Tympani, ghostly chorus, the gentle strum of guitars, a hint of marimba. It went to #1. Orbison died in 1988 at age 52 of a heart attack. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and was rated in the top 100 greatest singers of all time.
