Royal Brunei opens Bali route. Royal Brunei Airlines will resume flights to Bali, Indonesia from July. The flag carrier of the Sultanate of Brunei is looking to tap into the growing tourism trade for European travelers, with a 4X-weekly Airbus A319 service. Royal Brunei deputy chairman Dermot Mannion said the airline had been considering the route as a way to develop and increase connectivity across its existing markets since it pulled out of the route several years ago. “In our latest studies, Bali has emerged a front-runner in providing connections for key markets in London and Dubai, but also for regional destinations like Hong Kong and Shanghai,” he said. The airline cut its Bali flights in 2003 following a dramatic drop in travel numbers as a result of the SARS outbreak, along with flight cuts to the Middle East, Australia and Hong Kong. The new connection complements the recent inauguration in April of the airline’s new Boeing 787s on flights from Melbourne to Brunei then connecting to London, with a daily service that replaced previous 777s on the route. The addition of Bali to the Royal Brunei route map adds to regional coverage for long-haul passengers. As the 787 launch customer in Southeast Asia, Royal Brunei links its service to regional and international destinations in Australia, China, Indonesia, Malaysia and the UK. atwonline/airports-routes/royal-brunei-opens-bali-route
