Royal Engagement Rings Queen Letizia of Spain Journalist Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano met Prince Felipe VI on a dinner. In fact Felipe asked a journalist of “Televisión Española” (international broadcast Spanish-language channel) to organize one and invite Letizia. They talked and on that October 17, 2002 Felipe got Letizia’s number. Two months later they saw each other again at a dinner and months later the relationship began. They announced their engagement on November 1, 2003 and married on May 22, 2004. She became Queen consort upon King Juan Carlos I abdicated in favor of his son, Letizia’s husband, on June 19, 2014. Felipe VI proposed with a 16-baguette diamond and white gold eternity band. The ring came from Suarez jewelers. She also gave white gold and sapphire cufflinks and a classical book. Sadly she hasn’t been wearing these rings anymore because the engagement one was tied up with the “Noos” case, a corruption scandal involving Cristina (Felipe’s sister) and her husband. Apparently the ring was bought with “Noos” credit card. She also stopped wearing her wedding band. ~Alexandria
