Rs 6.5 lakh stolen from safe in Fortis Hospital. BANGALORE: A safe in Fortis Hospital, Cunningham Road, was broken open and Rs 6.5 lakh cash in it was stolen during the weekend. Security guards are the prime suspects, said police spurces. Police said the safe located on the fourth floor of the building was broken open by unidentified men and the money taken. It is suspected that the thieves struck in the wee hours of Sunday. "The complaint was lodged on Monday morning by one of the managers of the hospital, Mallikarjun," said a High Grounds police officer, adding, "We are suspecting the involvement of some insider and have picked some hospital security guards for questioning." Sources said CCTV footage obtained from the hospital led to nail of suspicion falling on the security guards. However, Fortis Hospital officials did not confirm the information. "We have handed all CCTV footage to the police for investigation. From what we have seen it is too premature to say who did it. So we are waiting to hear from the police," said Dr Selwyn Colaco, facility director at Fortis Hospitals. He said the robbery took place on the fourth floor of the hospital, which was an administrative unit. "As Sunday was a holiday, we closed the floor and left on Saturday. We realized there was a theft when we came to work on Monday," Dr Colaco said.TOI
