Rt. Hon Emeka Ihedioha Interacts With Nigeria Labour Congress Imo State Chapter. The governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party in Imo Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha yesterday held an interactive session with the leadership of Labour union in the state at the NUJ Press Center Port-Harcourt Road. This was his 1st official engagement after he was unveiled by the Party leadership as the official standard flag bearer of the state. Welcoming the in-coming governor of Imo state, the State chairman of NLC Hon. Comrade Reginald Anyadike thank him for coming to interact with them. He expressed happiness for the emergence of Emeka Ihedioha as the candidate of PDP in the forth coming election stating that the election would have eluded the party if they had chosen another person. He noted that the Deputy Speaker was needed in the State to replicate his giant strides from the National Assembly to the State. The man of the moment Emeka Ihedioha used the opportunity to highlight some of the visions and mission of his administration if voted in as the governor of the State on the 28th of February and sworn in on 29th of May. He emphasized that his government will work for the welfare, prosperity and restoration of the peoples values. The governorship hopeful regretted the level of decay in our educational system and the subsequent decline in the performances of Imo student in W.A.E.C. According to him, Imo State had an all time woeful result in W.A.E.C this year by scoring an average of 46%. The poor performance of Imo students was attributed to unconcerned attitude of the state government towards qualitative education. Rt. Hon. Ihedioha revealed that in the 548 secondary schools in the state, there only 87 Mathematics teachers, 20 for Additional Mathematics, 92 Chemistry teachers, 102 Physics teachers, 130 English teachers. He challenged parents to go to their wards schools and find out what is happening. He wondered how students under such condition of none existent teachers will perform well. In the health sector the news is also not palatable at all. Rt. Hon Ihedioha who relies so much on statistics, facts and figures revealed that in the entire Imo State Health system, there are only 3 Medical Consultants. The conditions of the General Hospitals are nothing to write home about. The General Hospitals have become moribund. Instead of making the General Hospitals functional by providing them basic equipment and proper staffing, the present government embarked on the so called construction of new Hospitals which he said, is an act of total ignorance and lack of understanding. The Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives frowned at the continued desecration of the traditional institutions through what the governor calls CGC. The traditional rulers are subjected to abandon their age long roles as the custodians of our cultural heritage and their roles of conflict resolution and settlement of disputes among people in the communities, to sharing money. The no longer stay in their palaces to attend to people but goes to the market square to attend meetings. This is desecration of our tradition, value and culture. Rt. Hon Ihedioha made yet another startling revelation as it affects the 2015 Imo State government budget. The lawmaker gave a statistics of the budgets of the State since 2013: In 2013, the budget stood at 42% Recurrent expenditure and 58% Capital expenditure; last year, the government budget was 45% Recurrent and 65% Capital which is good for a developing economy not withstanding the implementation aspect. However, the shocker is in this years budget 2015 which stands at 82% Recurrent and 18% Capital. He stated that the implication of this is that the government will not be able to do any project this year contrary to his promise during Buharis visit to Imo State where he told the people that he will do factory for them. Is it with 18% capital that you are going to do factory?, he asked. The present government does not know what it takes to make Industrialization possible and that is the reason for his not paying attention to meaningful projects like the 3 power sub-station attracted to the state by Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha. According to him, there are about 27 industries in his Ideato South LGA which have closed down because there is no power to activate them and a good number of people are rendered jobless as a result. After a careful look into the challenges bedeviling Imo State, the man who is prepared to give the state better governance. He outlined the changes which he intends to effect immediately he is sworn in as the governor of the state to the Labour leaders. He promised a Qualitative Free Education and training of teachers through a partnership programme with the National Teachers Institute. The issue of Physical training and fitness in our school which had been abandoned will receive prompt attention so that the will begin to rediscover the likes of Kanu Nwankwo, Chioma Ajunwa etc. Efforts will be made to provide playgrounds for field and track events in the Primary and Secondary Schools since the governor in his ignorance chose to use the school playgrounds to build classroom blocks. Another key point he raised was the activation of technical colleges in the State. He made it known that he shall once more make the 4 technical colleges in our state functional for the training of Artisans and job creation. Furthermore, the government of Emeka Ihedioha will revamp the economy of the state through an aggressive Agricultural revolution programme. The governor to be also made it clear that he will set up a mechanized farm settlement in the three zones of the State which will enable the State be a food exporter or at least generate enough food for our people. The opportunities of good arable land for rice cultivation in Ihitte Uboma and Ehime Mbano will be properly utilized by his administration. He promised to bring technical partners to boast our yield in agriculture and also partner with the Federal Governments agricultural initiatives like FADAMA programme. On his relationship with Labour when he becomes governor, Rt. Hon. Ihedioha said that he will work with them to make Imo great. He stated that Labour is pivotal to engineering the economy and that he will make Labour an integral part of his administration. Moreover, the local government system will be once more activated to be tier of government that will be responsive and responsible for the people in our grassroot as Ihedioha averred. He declared that there will be a synergy between the state and local governments and that the local governments will the hub of development in the rural areas. The Deputy Speaker urged the Labour to support his candidature and the other candidates of PDP in the forth coming election. He reiterated that his government shall be accountable for all and a participatory government. There shall also be rule of law and obedience to court judgements. He thanked them for coming and listening to him. The governorship candidate was accompanied to the ocassion by His deputy Rt. Hon Chuma Nnaji, the PDP chairman of the State Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehe, 2 of his colleges from the National Assembly Hon. Prof. Chudi Uwazuruike and Hon. Gerald Irona. Others in his entourage are former Head of Service Dr. Mrs Agatha Ndugbu, Chief D.D Iwuoha and Sir Bright Nwaelue. The Labour leaders in attendance includes the NLC Chairman Imo State Hon.
