Ruby victims to get P8.2M worth of relief goods from Japan December 12, 2014 12:36pm Victims of Typhoon Ruby (Hagupit) stand to benefit from some P8.2 million worth of emergency relief goods from Japan. The Japanese Embassy in Manila said Japan will formally turn over the goods to the Department of Social Welfare and Development on Monday, Dec. 15. The assistance worth approximately Y22 million (approximately P8.2 million) aims to alleviate the difficulties of the people affected by the calamity. It includes blankets, sleeping pats, plastic sheets, etc. that will mitigate the difficult living conditions in and around evacuation centers, it said. Japanese Ambassador Kazuhide Ishikawa will hand over the goods to Social Welfare Secretary Corazon Soliman, it added. As of Friday morning, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said 186,694 families or 868,624 people are being served inside and outside 3,003 evacuation centers. On the other hand, the embassy said Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe earlier relayed condolences and sympathies to President Benigno Aquino III. Japanese Foreign Affairs Minister Fumio Kishida sent similar messages to Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario.
