Ruff Ruff!! Happy Sunday! We would love to share Lizzies story with you and give you an update on her progress. There have been so many applications and inquiries about her and we are trying to get to them all! In November were contacted by Lizzies original owner when she could no longer keep Lizzie. Her name was Lady before she came to us (we already had a Lady in the program so we changed it so that we would not be confused). We knew that she had behavior needs and we agreed anyway. This little girl came in with spunk and attitude at a level that we have not seen in awhile. We looked into her past and realized that we had welcomed a dog into our program that was learning to be a dog for the first time. Lizzie was sold in a petstore and then lived in her kennel 12+ hours a day. At 8 months old she was still a baby. This is the first time she has lived in a home with other dogs and a backyard. A wonderful dog trainer agreed to meet her after her foster mom began to struggle with her behavior. She used to mouth everything and bark and stomp any time she was told no. It reminded us of a toddler tantrum. Lizzie is very aware of power shifts and environment changes and acts accordingly. She believed that she was in charge. As soon as that changed we saw her personality shine through. We are happy to report that Lizzie is doing so well. She is so different from the mixed up girl we first met. She is at her best when she is given clear signals that she understands. Her foster mom has been working hard on leash manners, down and potty training. This goes to show you that time, stability and boundaries are so important for not only Lizzie but all dogs. She went on a trial adoption for a short time that did not work out. The family said that they think she is a great dog and did very well for them but they reccomend older children. We agree. She needs to be with people who are assertive with her and can give her leadership. She is more relaxed when she knows that you are in charge. The best place for her to be is in a structured environment. She is thriving in a home with other dogs and structure. Her foster family has learned a lot about training and would be willing to help any family with her transition. When given the oppurtunity Lizzie is the most loyal and loving dog there is. She gives more kissed and cuddles than any dog in the house. Without rescue she could have ended up on Craigslist or a shelter and that would have gotten her in a horrible postion. Please go to beaglesandmore.info for an application. Lizzie is a work in progress but is so worth it! Did we mention how beautiful she is?
