If He has ever been in mutual and reciprocal communication with the persons He has made, He is still a communicating God as eager as ever to have listening and receptive souls. If there is something in His image and superscription in our innermost structure and being, we ought to expect a continuous revelation of His will and purpose through the ages... He is the GREAT I AM, not a GREAT HE WAS. Prayer releases energy as certainly as the closing of an electric current does. It heightens all human capacities. It refreshes and quickens life. It unlocks reservoirs of power. It is effective and operative as surely as are the forces of steam and gravitation. ... The joy of communion and intercourse with God is the central feature of prayer and it is one of the most impressive facts of life... Fortunately we do not need to understand vital processes and energies of life before we utilize them and start living by them. The child would die in unconscious infancy if he refused to turn to his mothers breast for nourishment until he had acquired a good working theory of the value and efficacy of mothers milk... It is a way of life that is as old as the human race is, and it is as difficult to explain as is our joy over love and beauty.
