Im down $634 on VWO on the year (in my brokerage account), and from what Ive read on tax loss harvesting and seasonality of stocks, it seems like a good idea would be to exit my position on VWO, buy back into something highly-correlated (like VXUS) while the market is improving, and report the $634 into my losses. To be fair, I already wanted to purchase XVUS independent of my woes with VWO, so its not solely to tax loss harvest, but it seems like this would be an incentive to exit now as opposed to waiting for VWO to improve.So have I understood this concept properly? Ive also heard I should wait until early-mid December, since lots of companies do this themselves, and that will further drop prices? And finally, how does the IRS determine what is considered too highly correlated? Im aware of the wash sale rule, and while VXUS is highly correlated, its more like a superset of VWO + VEA + VSS, so will this be a red flag to the IRS?
