Rule of law should be protected to safeguard freedom; Maithripala Sirisena Common Candidate Maithreepala Sirisena said the rule of law should be protected in order to safeguard freedom, democracy and equality of the people. He expressed these views during a conference under the theme of ‘Street’s protest against Frenzy’ organized by civil society representatives in Colombo today. Civil Organization representatives handed over draft resolutions comprising 17 factors including the annulment of Prevention of Terrorism Act to common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena during the meeting. Addressing the gathering common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena said that he is contesting the presidential election not to remain in the position but to abolish the executive presidency and build a people centric administration. Meanwhile common candidate Maithreepala Sirisena participated in the National conference of Journalists held in Colombo this morning. Addressing journalists, UNP National Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe said that the Right to Information Act would be enacted within 100 days after the common opposition forms a new government.
