Ruler is Hussain, Emperor is Hussain, Faith is Hussain , guardian of faith is Hussain . Offered his head and not the hand to Yazid. Truly, the mirror of faith is Hussain The above mentioned verses are some of Khuwaja Muinuddin Chishty’s powerful verses which epitomize the reverence Muslims hold towards the event of Karbala, Imam Hussain and the Ahle Bait. In order to show this devotion, IBA’s Student Council held a seminar on Imam Hussain on the 27th of November, 2014 focusing on the topic “Leadership and Ideas for Tomorrow” in accordance with the teachings and events on the battlefield of Karbala. The event started with the recitation of a verse of Holy Quran and Naat e Rasool followed by an introduction of esteemed guest speakers; Allama Ali Murtaza Zaidi, Ali Liaquat Hussain Azhari, Dr. Nomanul Haq and the president of the seminar, Dr. Talat Wizarat. The introduction was followed by Allama Ali Murtaza Zaidi’s address where he answered the indispensable question of all times which is, “How can we incorporate some of Imam Hussian’s characteristics into our natures and implement his actions on the battlefield of Karbala into our daily lives?” Furthermore, he also emphasized that in order to follow the leadership of Imam Hussain one does not only need to look at how he fought with utmost determination on the battlefield but also the forbearance, endurance and zealous leadership qualities of his sister, Bibi Zainab evident from her Khutba in the Darbar of Yazid. Where Professor Ali Murtaza Zaidi’s speech enlightened the audience as to how they could improve their actions it was followed by that of Allama Liaquat Hussain Azhari’s who emphasized on the role and responsibilities of educational institutions in promoting such causes. He also congratulated the entire team of IBA for holding such a remarkable event in order to promote the learnings of Karbala and spreading the knowledge that the battle of Karbala was not a political one but instead a one between good and evil. He advised the audience that just as Imam Hussain refused to submit to the autocracy of Yazid we should also stand against evil at all times no matter how difficult the situation gets. Gani Tayyub Auditorium of IBA Main Campus was then spiritually enlightened by the beautiful verses of the Salam “Karbala Muntazir hai” by Shuja Rizvi. The verses brought tears to the eyes of some while making the others ponder over the entire event of Karbala, the happenings and the responsibilities which lie on our shoulders today as followers of the Prophet (PBUH). The event was then carried forward by a special lecture delivered by Nomanul Haq on the topic “Across Sectarian Turfs: Narratives and Poetics of Karbala”. In the lecture he beautifully highlighted that the evolution of the narratives and poetics of the historical events of Karbala cuts across sectarian boundaries. The speaker discussed the strong poetic work of Allama Iqbal, Rumi, Lal Shahbaz Qalandar, Sauda, and other prominent poets in the history of South Asia to support his point. He also mentioned that Iqbal’s concept of ‘Khudi’ is actually based on the personality of Hazrat Ali ibn e Abu Talib. After his speech Dr. Talat Wizarat who was presiding the seminar shed light upon the topic and event of Karbala explaining how it is an event laden with deep symbolism for the Muslims throughout the globe. She specifically highlighted that the idea and trait of sacrifice should be learned from the event of Karbala and should be implemented on our daily life. Before ending her speech she expressed immense sense of pleasure of presiding such an enlightening seminar. This marked the end of a very successful event. Guest speakers were presented with tokens of appreciation by the Chief Guest, Associate Dean of IBA, Dr. Nishat and the audience was presented with refreshment boxes organized by ISC.
