Rumors and observations from Asmara: There is a rumor that DIA purged the National Union of Eritrea Youth and Students (NUEYS). Mr. Sultan Saeed who was chairperson of NUEYS up until recently was frozen from his position along with his many allies. DIA now appointed a new chairperson of NUEYS, Mr. Saleh Ahmedin who is allegedly loyal to him. People from Asmara are now speculating that DIA purged NUEYS because he thinks that Mr. Sultan and his allies wielded too much power that he feared that they can try to overthrow his government just like the Fort operation by Wedi-Ali and his allies. This is not surprising to many us, because DIA continuously purges groups or defense divisions or ministries whenever he perceives a threat. NUEYS had many turnovers, it is to be remembered the first chairperson was Mehyedin Shengeb followed by Ali Abdu (before he became MoI) and both are now defected from DIA/PFDJ. In related news, Mrs. Salma Hassen who was minster of Ministry of Labour and Human Welfare up until recently, but it is rumored to be she is now frozen from her position because she is just happen to be the wife of Mr. Sultan Saeed. Mrs. Salma Hassen was one of the few women minsters who were talented and educated. She graduated with BSc from University of Asmara and MS from UK University.
