Rumors of Appointment of Baghwandas ex- supremecourt CJ,as NAB - TopicsExpress

Rumors of Appointment of Baghwandas ex- supremecourt CJ,as NAB Chairman-by opposition and government unanimously, shows the reality of the intentions of government and opposition that how determined they are to safe guard their interests??? With NAB now expected to handle Herculean cases like the Swiss cases, the Ogra case, the RPP case, the cases of two ex-prime ministers, the Ephedrine case, Hajj case and many others involving billions and trillions in lost money, it would be highly unjust for a man of his age to catch the big fish.Interestingly it was Rana Bhagwandas who first started a probe into the Ogra scandal as the Supreme Court of Pakistan formed a commission under his chairmanship in 2009. It released its report in early July 2009 and for the first time gave a scathing insight into how the government and the oil companies were making tons of money, screwing the people. His report said during the period from 2001 to 2009 under the head of taxes levied on petroleum products, the government had earned over Rs10.23 trillion. Giving break up of this money, the Bhagwandas Commission said the government earned a sum of Rs548,954 million against sales tax, Rs33,381 million against federal excise duty, Rs79,771 million against custom duty, Rs281,364 million against petroleum duty levy and Rs80,171 million under income tax head. But this report never had any impact and neither the government nor the oil companies took any step to stop the massive moneymaking exercise at public expense. Rana Bhagwandas never took up the matter again at any public forum.
